Nine men have been arrested over tragedy chanting at Anfield stadium.

The individuals from Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire were detained during last Sunday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Kian Holt, 19, has been charged with a public order offence related to tragedy chanting and is due to appear at Sefton Magistrates Court on January 8.

A 28-year-old man from Prestwich was also arrested on suspicion of common assault .Six of the nine arrested at Anfield last weekend have been bailed.

Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners in the game but the fallout was marred by controversy after visiting goalkeeper Stefan Ortega made a bizarre attack on the host’s city.

Ortega claimed that he had been told that the area was ‘probably not the best part in the UK’ after home fans chanted Pep Guardiola would be ‘sacked in the morning’.
