All 38 Grand National runners safe despite 26 falls

All of the 38 Horses who ran The 2018 Randox Health Grand National have returned safely to stables despite concerns for Saint Are.

It was widely thought that Saint Are had become a Grand National fatality after a tent was placed around him following a fall at The Chair. It has now been confirmed that he has returned to Stables where he is stable and is being monitored overnight.

Since the urn of the century, 11 horses have died in the Grand National. Seven died between 2000 and 2010. Four died between 2010 and 2012 and there have been no fatalities since this date.

Just 12 of the 38 runners made it back home meaning that 26 runners and riders fell over the famous Grand National fences. None of the horses are reported to have any concerns.

One Horse was put down during the three day festival at Aintree. Libitluso fell during the Foxhunters Chase on the first day.

A statement from Aintree said: “While racing in the Randox Foxhunter’s Chase at Aintree, Lilbitluso fell and was quickly attended to by our expert veterinary professionals.

“Sadly the nature of the injury meant it was necessary to put him down humanely on welfare grounds.

“Our sympathies are very much with his owners and the team who cared for him on a daily basis.”
