A member of Liverpool band The Christians suffered a heart attack on stage.
Lionel Duke was performing with the group in their home city as part of On The Waterfront festival on Sunday evening at the Pier Head when the incident occurred.
Lead singer Garry Christian called for medics to urgenly come to the stage after Mr Duke had collapsed during their performance before a black screen was put up.
The band’s manager Emma Bridget later appeared on stage to inform thousands in attendance that the drummer had suffered a cardiac arrest but was responsive.
Sting, who followed The Christians’ appearance as On The Waterfront’s Sunday headline act, later confirmed to the crowd that Mr Duke was recovering in hospital.
In a statement published on social media, the band said: “Thank you so much to all the many many messages regarding our drummer Lionel Duke who suffered a cardiac arrest while performing at tonight’s amazing concert ahead of Sting.
“We are awaiting news from the Heart and Chest hospital at Broad Green and thank the phenomenal team of medics present from On The Waterfront Liverpool team who stepped in so swiftly to help our poor Lionel.
“Please send positive vibes his way.”
