Everton set to tie up first new summer signing

Everton are on the verge of sealing Kenny Tete as their first signing of the new summer window.

Tete is available as a free agent when his current contract at Fulham expires at the end of June and has rejected fresh terms to remain with the west Londoners.

The 29-year-old’s arrival on Merseyside will address one of David Moyes’ priority target areas with his side limited for options during the previous campaign.

Both Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson were limited in their appearances there while centre-back Jake O’Brien was deployed there as a makeshift option.

Moyes was recently linked with several right-sided defenders including Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and his erstwhile West Ham lieutenant Vladimir Coufal.

But Tete is expected to pen a three-year contract with the Blues as their maiden incoming in what promises to be a busy summer at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Beyond his five years at Craven Cottage, the Netherlands international boasts a wealth of senior experience following spells with both Ajax and Lyon.

He first came up against his future employers in a 2-1 win at Goodison Park in October 2017 during the club’s ill-fated Europa League group stage campaign.

If signed, Tete would follow Charly Alcaraz in joining Everton’s ranks after they activated the midfielder’s purchase option following his loan from Flamengo.
