Liverpool coach in line for former club return

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s time with Liverpool could soon come to an end.

Van Bronckhorst joined Arne Slot’s coaching staff last summer following the departure of John Heitinga, who took up a second stint in charge of Ajax.

But the former Arsenal midfielder is now being tipped to follow in his compatriot’s footsteps by rejoining a former employer according to reports in the Netherlands.

AD claim that Feyenoord have identified Van Bronckhorst as their preferred candidate to succeed outgoing technical director Dennis te Kloese this summer.

The 51-year-old is still widely regarded at De Kuip, where he won the Eredivisie title during a four-year spell between 2015 and 2019 at the start of his coaching career.

If appointed, Van Bronckhorst would reunite with ex- international teammate Robin van Persie, who was appointed the Rotterdam club’s head coach this season.

Feyenood are yet to make a formal approach to their Anfield counterparts but are understood to be confident of luring the assistant coach to his home city.

Van Bronckhorst’s departure would be the fifth suffered by the Reds’ backroom staff under Slot after Heitinga and set-piece coach Aaron Briggs’ December exit.

Goalkeeping coaches Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel also departed during the close season and were replaced by former Reds stalwart Xavi Valero.
