Virgil van Dijk has refuted claims of a disconnect between Liverpool and their fans.

Supporters booed Arne Slot and his players after last weekend’s home draw with Tottenham saw the Premier League champions lose ground in the top four race.

But the Anfield faithful were fully behind the Reds as they put Galatasaray to the sword on Wednesday to seal their place in the Champions League quarter finals.

And Van Dijk insists that his relationship with the fanbase remains unchanged despite acknowledging the understandable frustration throughout this season.

He said: “That is a bit of a question I don’t like, I don’t like that tone to be honest.

“In all these years at Liverpool I’ve never ever questioned them and I still don’t.

“There is a reason why there is frustration this season because we had an amazing season last year.

“We became champions, we had consistent, good football, finding ways to win, and this season we have had so many ups and downs dealing with difficult moments.

“There has been frustration because we want to perform every three or four days as well.

“But it is looking ahead and that’s my main focus.”
