Liverpool are set to trigger a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.
Frimpong has emerged strongly on the Anfield club’s radar as they look to strengthen for their Premier League title defence at the start of next season.
The 24-year-old would be classed as a homegrown player for the Reds on account of spending his formative career with Manchester City and Celtic.
His eagerness to return to England is understood to be a driving factor as Arne Slot’s side look to also fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit.
Leverkusen have utilised Frimpong at both right-back and wing-back, leading to 28 goals in the past three seasons as they won the Bundesliga in 2024.
A modest release clause of €35 million (£29.5M) is set to see the Amsterdam-born player become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
He will join Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was signed last year and immediately loaned back to his recent employers for the season.
Beyond Frimpong, the Premier League champions are also keen on club teammate Florian Wirtz, who is expected to leave the BayArena this summer.
The playmaker is heavily tipped for a move to Bayern Munich but Liverpool will attempt to make an approach should he consider clubs outside Germany.
