Wataru Endo admits he is prepared to deputise in defence for Liverpool.
Injuries to Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate saw the Japan international deployed as an auxiliary centre-back in successive Carabao Cup outings.
Endo reprised his role at the heart of defence for Saturday’s FA Cup third round win over Accrington Stanley as Slot rested Virgil van Dijk and Konate.
And the veteran midfielder revealed that the Reds’ head coach sees him as a potential backline option which could lead to an extended run of games.
“Actually, I used to play as a defender when I was 18 to 25 years old,” said Endo.
“So for me, I don’t mind if I play centre-back or number six. I just do what I can do.
“I don’t discuss with the manager what my position is. Now Joey has got an injury and Ibou is just coming back so that’s why I played.
“He also thinks putting me as a defender is a good option to play his tactics so I hope I’m going to get a lot more minutes than before.”
Endo arrived at Anfield under Slot’s predecessor Jurgen Klopp and believes the contrast between his current and former manager are in minor details.
He added: “I wouldn’t say a lot of difference, we want to put pressure high.
“I think the new manager is more ‘stable’ so he likes the players to stay in their positions how he wants and that’s different.
“But I really enjoy how he plays at the moment and I think everyone enjoys playing his tactics.”
