Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed a key factor in his Liverpool future.

Alexander racked up his 100th goal involvement for Arne Slot’s side as they returned to winning ways in the Premier League against Bournemouth.

The England international’s existing deal at Anfield will expire next summer alongside fellow automatic starters Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

But Alexander-Arnold admits he still harbours ambitions of becoming the Reds’ captain, having been promoted to vice-captain by Jurgen Klopp last summer.

He said: “I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say.

“I’ve been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won’t be either.

“I have always said I want to captain the club, that is an aim of mine and a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands”

During Klopp’s final season, Alexander-Arnold won the Carabao Cup and was part of a Liverpool side which remained in the hunt for a potential quadruple.

Although that target ultimately fell short, the homegrown full-back believes there are signs that another tilt at silveware could be on the horizon this term.

“The most important thing is always trophies if I’m honest,” added Alexander-Arnold.

“I want to win trophies, I am a player who is highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite, so that is probably the main factor of anything.

“If you have a personality that is elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win then that is what drives me.

“We were close to the title last season and we got a cup. The quadruple was on for a while I suppose, the signs were there.

“This season we are looking really good, it is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency and beat a lot of teams over the course of this season.

“Then you have the other cups, the Champions League and everything that comes around it.

“It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can.”
