Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool are in talks over James Milner’s future.
Milner’s contract is set to run at the end of this season but remains an integral part of Anfield’s first-team setup, having already played 23 times this season.
The former England international was installed as the Reds’ vice-captain by Brendan Rodgers just months before Klopp succeeded him in the dugout.
Ahead of Sunday’s trip to Burnley, the Liverpool manager revealed Milner’s future is already on the club’s radar ahead of his deal’s impending expiry.
“There are talks [with Milner],” said Klopp.
“We usually don’t comment further on that. There’s no reason for it.
“But of course I’m in talks [and] the club is in talks, with Milly.
“We will see.”
Milner turned 36 last month, leading to speculation that he could call time on a playing career which began two decade ago at boyhood club Leeds United.
Klopp, however, is adamant there is ‘no chance’ that the versatile midfielder will hang up his boots just yet while still able to perform at his current level.
He added: “He’s desperate to play on.
“I understand it, to be honest, because life after your career – when you are lucky enough to stay healthy – is much longer than your career.
“So then you should extend your career as long as you can. If you can play football, it’s better than other things.
“Milly will be fine after his career as well, but he obviously loves what he is doing and he will play football next year, definitely.”
