Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Roberto Firmino suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s win over Atletico Madrid.

Firmino featured as a second-half substitute in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory which secured the Reds’ passage into the Champions League knockout stages.

But the Brazilian became the third member of Klopp’s side to succumb to hamstring issues this term after Naby Keita and James Milner’s injuries.

He previously suffered a similar problem in August’s draw with Chelsea, which sidelined the forward, 29, for a combined four matches in all competitions.

And Klopp admitted that Firmino’s forced withdrawal after just half an hour of game time ended a cruising victory for Liverpool on something of a sour note.

He said: “If Bobby Firmino wouldn’t have gone off with a hamstring injury that would have been much better.

“But from pretty much all other points of view, it was a good performance, it’s an incredible group stage so far.

“I wouldn’t have expected that obviously when I saw the draw – nobody would have expected that. Doing that is pretty special.

“But for tonight, job done but we all know there are two games to go and we will try everything to win them as well.

“That’s how it is.”
