Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has tested positive for coronavirus.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed on Friday that Salah is self-isolating following a medical swab while on duty with his national side.
Although the 28-year-old was diagnosed with Covid-19, he is asymptomatic.
News of Salah’s positive diagnosis arrived just days after video footage of the player attending a family wedding earlier in the international break emerged.
The Premier League’s two-time Golden Boot winner was seen dancing with fellow guests at the ceremony on several occasions while not wearing a mask.
Salah is the fifth Reds player to return a positive Covid test this season, joining Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Shaqiri found himself temporarily sidelined for Switzerland last month as a result of an original test before a second sample indicated a false positive.
Liverpool are hopeful that Salah will not be ruled out of action if he continues to display mild or zero symptoms of the virus upon returning to Merseyside.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already been dealt a number of setbacks in the opening weeks of their Premier League title defence with mounting injuries.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez face considerable lay-offs with knee injuries while Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to be out of action for four weeks.
Thiago and Fabinho are still working their way back to full fitness while the highly influential Mane and Alisson recently returned from their own setbacks.
Liverpool’s preparations for their showdown with Leicester City have been boosted by the game subsequently being pushed back by some 24 hours.
The Anfield fixture against the Foxes is now set to take place on Sunday, November 22 with a 7.15pm kick-off after being selected for broadcast..
