Fabinho will miss Liverpool’s Premier League showdown with West Ham.
The midfielder limped out of the Reds’ eventual Champions League eventual win over Midtjylland on Tuesday night with a suspected hamstring injury.
Brazil announced that Fabinho was unlikely to be available for them during the upcoming international break on account of the setback.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the 27-year-old will now be absent for Saturday’s visit of the Hammers to Anfield in addition to a short period thereafter.
He said: “Fab is not in [the squad for West Ham]. That’s clear.
“He got a little injury and so he will be out for the weekend and probably slightly longer.
“That’s one thing, but all the others who are fit will be in contention, either on the pitch or on the bench and coming on.”
The Liverpool manager also provided reassurances that captain Jordan Henderson will be fit to face David Moyes’s side in the evening encounter.
Henderson had been withdrawn at half time against Midtjylland, leading to speculation of fitness issues but Klopp has dismissed those suggestions.
“Jordan Henderson did not have a fitness problem. Responsible is maybe the better word for [the substitution],” said Klopp.
“I can count a little bit and so I can count the games we played, I can count all the games the players played and we have to try to get through this period.
“If you have a look at the schedule then you see the month like October is a month like a usual December and November is a month like a usual December.
“Then December is still December, so that means we have the intensity of the most hectic schedule, which we have every year in December.
“[But] we have it now already and that’s why we have to make these kind of decisions. We will make them as long as we can make them. The boys are ready to go.”
