Dejan Lovren is on the verge of an £11 million departure from Liverpool.
Lovren has spent six years at Anfield but seen his first-team prospects dwindle with Joe Gomez or Joel Matip partnering Virgil van Dijk in defence.
Talks between the Reds and Zenit St Petersburg over the Croatia international have taken place in the last fortnight and are nearing a successful conclusion.
The centre-back’s current deal expires next year and Liverpool passed up an option to an option to unilaterally extend it by a further 12 months until 2022.
Lovren has made just 13 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League champions this term with only three coming since October last year.
Jurgen Klopp is understood to be willing to utilise the club’s youngsters to fill the void in central defence following the World Cup finalist’s likely exit.
Dutch players Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever, both 18, are expected to be handed regular first-team roles in the event of Lovren’s departure.
