Liverpool halt mascot use over Coronavirus

Liverpool will not use child mascots in efforts to curb the Coronavirus.

A series of ‘proactive measures’ were announced by Anfield chiefs on Thursday as concerns about the spread of the disease intensify.

On-pitch mascots are not set to be used for the Reds’ home games while club employees will not travel to countries considered high-risk for Coronavirus.

Visitors to the club’s training grounds, offices and community facilities will be required to complete a health questionnaire as part of the screening process.

Liverpool are also planning to deploy hand sanitisers and antibacterial handwash in the washrooms at Anfield for match-going supporters.

Separately, any fans displaying symptoms consistent with the virus are urged to familiarise themselves with advice on self-isolation from the UK’s chief medical officer.

The Premier League wrote to all of its clubs earlier this week about the prospect of this season’s remaining games being played behind closed doors.

Serie A has announced that their fixtures will be held without attending supporters until early April due to the virus’ spread in northern Italy.

But any decision taken by the English footballing authorities over its own matches will be determined by Government’s advice over Coronavirus.
