Jordan Henderson is facing a lay-off of three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Henderson was substituted during the final stages of Liverpool’s Champions League last 16 first leg defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening.
The midfielder will now miss up to four matches for the runaway Premier League leaders, beginning with Monday’s visit of a struggling West Ham.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Henderson is also likely to be absent for the Reds’ FA Cup clash with Chelsea and games with Watford and Bournemouth.
“It could have been worse,” admitted the Liverpool manager.
“How we all know, it was a hamstring. We heard of different hamstring injuries now around in the Premier League – Harry Kane, for example.
“It’s not that bad but he will be out, I think, for three weeks or so, which is not cool. But how we see it, we were still lucky. That’s it.”
Klopp is also set to be without Xherdan Shaqiri when Liverpool take on the Hammers as he continues to recover from a long-standing calf problem.
The Swiss international has not featured for the European champions since January 11 and is not currently scheduled for an imminent first-team return.
Klopp added: “[Shaqiri is] not close to team training yet.
“We never did, but this time for sure we cannot, put any time pressure on it because it is obviously a difficult one.
“It was never a big one but always big enough to keep him out for another two or three weeks. So, we just wait. He is not close to team training.”
