Neco Williams is looking to Trent Alexander-Arnold in developing his own Liverpool career.
Williams produced a man-of-the-match display at right-back as the Reds won their FA Cup fourth round replay against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old has been training with Jurgen Klopp’s side throughout this season at Melwood, where Alexander-Arnold is now an established figure.
And the Academy graduate admits that his move into the senior ranks has allowed him to hone his skills by observing the England international’s lead.
“He’s obviously one of the best right-backs in the world right now,” said Williams.
“Every day I’m training with him, I’m picking up little things each day and trying to bring it into my own game.
“Being there [at Melwood] every day is a learning day for me.
“To train with one of the best teams in the world, if not the best team in the world right now, is going to make you a better player.
“Each day I don’t take for granted. I’m just grateful to be there every day.”
Klopp and his first-team squad missed for the renewed encounter with the Shrews as they enjoyed some respite in line with a scheduled mid-season break.
Critcisms levelled at the Liverpool manager accused him of disrespecting the FA Cup with stand-in Neil Critchley fielding the club’s youngest-ever starting line-up.
But Williams, whose cross led to the decisive own goal from Ro-Shaun Williams, insists that the furore around the tie only spurred on the home dressing room.
He added: “It just makes us want to win more.
“Whatever team plays out there at Anfield is going to give you a result like we did against Arsenal [in the Carabao Cup], against Everton and obviously today.
“I think we leave everything out on the pitch and I thought the boys were excellent.
“As soon as the start of the whistle goes, all your mind’s focused on is the game.
“All your thoughts go away and you’re just focused on the game and like we showed, the boys are capable of winning games.”
