Alexander-Arnold sidelined for up to a month

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to miss up to a month with a knee injury.

Alexander-Arnold becomes Liverpool’s latest defensive casualty with the problem sustained during the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s 1-0 win over Brighton.

The 20-year-old completed the game at the Amex Stadium but tests have shown that he suffered ligament damage which carries a four week lay-off period.

It leaves Liverpool without an established right-back for Saturday’s visit of Crystal Palace, having allowed Nathaniel Clyne to join Bournemouth on loan last week.

Jurgen Klopp is already contending with a selection headache after midfielder Fabinho was used in central defence at Brighton over a recovering Joel Matip.

Matip will be available for selection against Roy Hodgson’s side but fellow centre-backs Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Lovren is not expected to return until the clash with Leicester City on January 30 while Gomez is not forecast to be able to return to training until early February.

Alexander-Arnold’s projected comeback will coincide with the first leg of the Reds’ Champions League last 16 encounter with Bayern Munich on February 19.
