Gremio have confirmed their interest in re-signing Lucas Leiva.
The midfielder’s prospects at Liverpool look set to be further diminished this summer as Jurgen Klopp eyes a move for RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.
Lucas found himself further down the Reds’ pecking order with Georginio Wijnaldum’s arrival last summer combined with several first-team mainstays.
Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana are also ahead of the Brazil international while compatriot Philippe Coutinho is earmarked for a similar role next season.
With 12 months remaining on his existing Anfield deal, Lucas is attracting interest from a host of clubs, including Newcastle, Brighton and Celtic.
But Gremio vice-president Odorico Roman has reaffirmed that the 30-year-old’s former club are also among those chasing his signature this summer.
“Lucas is a great player, signing him would make an impact,” he told Zero Hora.
“If there is a possibility within the financial conditions of the club, and that also serves Lucas’ interest, it is possible that he may come.
“At this time, there is no negotiation. I talked to him a few days ago, at any moment we can make contact. But he is also aware of the interest of other clubs.
“There is, yes, possibility of him coming, but there is nothing in progress right now.”
