Jurgen Klopp disputes causing Liverpool FC slump

Jurgen Klopp has refuted suggestions that Liverpool’s current slump is a symptom of his high-intensity philosophy.

An FA Cup replay over Plymouth Argyle remains the Reds’ only win from their seven games in all competitions since the beginning of the calendar year.

Successive defeats to Southampton and Swansea City have further placed Klopp under the microscope as regular Raymond Verheijn reignited the pair’s feud.

In the wake of the EFL Cup semi-final exit to the Saints, the ex-Wales fitness coach accused the Liverpool manager of “‘running his players into the ground”.

But Klopp insists that statistics of his side’s performances show no signs of diminishing energy levels ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup clash with Wolves.

He said: “They (the figures) are still as high in all parts as they were before, especially in distance.

“The games are different so sometimes there will be less sprints to do, it’s completely different when you play United, City or Swansea, but no they didn’t change.

“It’s not a fitness problem. We didn’t play that well but we could have won games, we could have won against [Manchester] United, we could have won against Swansea.

“Football is about decision-making—you have to make the right decisions at the right moment.”
