Silva afforded stay of execution by Everton

Marco Silva is set to take charge of Everton’s trip to Leicester City this weekend.

Pressure is mounting on the Goodison Park hierarchy to sack the beleaguered Portuguese coach in the wake of Saturday’s abject 2-0 defeat to Norwich City.

Irate supporters made their feelings known to both majority investor Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright as they left the directors’ box after the game.

Silva held immediate talks with Moshiri, Kenwright and director of football Marcel Brands in the Goodison boardroom following the Norwich loss.

Further discussions took place during the course of the weekend but the former Watford and Hull City boss will currently be afforded a stay of execution.

He took charge of first-team training at Finch Farm on Tuesday and looks set to still be in post for Sunday’s game with Brendan Rodgers’ high-flying side.

Everton sit just four points outside the Premier League’s relegation zone and a defeat at the King Power Stadium could see them slip further down the table.

After facing the Foxes, they face a difficult run of fixtures with games against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in swift succession.
