Kenny complete Schalke loan switch

Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny is set to join Schalke on a season-long loan.

Kenny made 13 appearances in all competitions last season but was unable to displace Seamus Coleman as the Blues’ first choice at right-back.

The Kirkdale-born defender, whose last outing came in March’s defeat at Newcastle, will now spend the forthcoming campaign with the Bundesliga side.

He will report for duty at the Veltins Arena upon returning from international duty with England at this summer’s European Under-21 Championship in Italy.

David Wagner recently took over at Schalke and is familiar with the 22-year-old from his own season-and-a-half with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League.

“It is a big chance for me, to come to a new country and show off my abilities, especially at a big club like Schalke,” said Kenny.

“Schalke 04 is a club with a long history and fantastic fans.

“I am happy to be here and can’t wait to get up and running with the team.”

Kenny’s Everton teammate Ademola Lookman previously enjoyed a loan spell in the German top flight with RB Leipzig, who remain keen on signing him.
