Wayne Rooney is considering leaving Everton in a shock summer exit.
Rooney sealed an emotional return to his boyhood club last July but his representatives are now exploring a move away from Goodison Park.
The ex-England captain’s long-standing representative Paul Stretford is in the United States to discuss a potential switch to Washington-based DC United.
Prior to Rooney’s Blues homecoming, the MLS outfit had attempted to sign him as a 13-year stay with Manchester United was drawing to a close.
His younger brother John boasts previous experience within the MLS, having previously made five appearances for New York Red Bulls in 2011.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that speculation is rife over Rooney’s future and is keen to extend his stay on Merseyside.
“There are rumours about Wayne going elsewhere abroad – in China and America – but rumours are rumours,” he told TalkSport.
“We won’t find out until Wayne and his agent have been contacted whether he wants to move.
“But at the moment he is an Everton fan and an Everton player.
“So I wouldn’t consider anything on the cards on the moment. It would have to be massive for him to want to leave Everton.
“Do I want him to stay? Yes.”
