Everton have lost their identity, claims Cahill

Tim Cahill has claimed that Everton have lost their identity this season.

Cahill became a cult hero at Goodison Park after making close to 300 appearances during an eight-year spell with the club.

But the veteran attacker, 38, refused to hold back on the Blues’ fortunes after sacking Ronald Koeman and appointing Sam Allardyce in his place.

Appearing on Sky’s Goals on Sunday programme, Cahill lamented the direction in which his former club had taken during the current campaign.

He said: “It’s confusing. I think they’re confused too.

“I feel we’ve lost our identity as a club, there’s nothing we’re stamping and really building around.

“Forget about before, when I was there and a few of the other players were there.

“But we had a basis that was built and we were adding to it and looking for the long-term plan of how we’re going to evolve as a football club.

“Now it seems like we’re just making signings and the chemistry is not there on the pitch, it’s just not linking well.”

“It’s difficult to watch, to be honest with you, because the quality, you have to be careful what you wish for, you want a big owner with money,” added Cahill.

“Ok, we’ve got that but it obviously doesn’t always bring you success overnight.

“For the fans, they want some passion, they want an identity so when you look back, even to Roberto Martinez’s style of football, maybe the Everton fans were impatient waiting for that style of football.

“Under David Moyes, maybe they thought it was getting stale, but now you can also appreciate what you’ve lost.”
