Models take PETA protest to Liverpool city centre

Passers-by in Liverpool city centre got quite an eyeful as three PETA models protested against the cruelty of the wool industry.

Body-painted to look bruised, beaten, and bloodied, one model covered her chest with a “dead lamb”, while the other two held placards that read ‘The Naked Truth: Wool Hurts’ and ‘Sheep Kicked and Beaten for Wool’.

PETA’s international affiliates have released five exposes, recorded at 37 facilities on three continents, which reveal that sheep are mutilated, abused, and skinned alive – even for so-called “responsibly sourced” wool on so-called “sustainable” farms.

Many sheep are left with gaping wounds that workers then stitch closed without any painkillers while shearers are often paid by volume, not by the hour, encouraging fast, violent work.

“We are in Liverpool to spread the message that sheep are not coats, jumpers, or scarves”, explained PETA Director Elisa Allen.

“When every single PETA exposé of the wool industry has revealed petrified sheep with bloody wounds and broken limbs, there’s simply no excuse to wear wool – especially when there are so many innovative vegan fabrics to choose from.”
