Police are appealing for information after thieves targeted a Fazakerley shop.
Three men believed to be armed with a knife and a baseball bat entered the Co-op store on Alscot Avenue on Monday night at around 8.10pm.
The offenders threatened staff before stealing a quantity of cash and cigarettes and subsequently escaping in a silver estate car.
All three were dressed in dark clothing, with one understood to have been wearing a black jacket with red zips on the pockets on the front, and face coverings.
Officers have carried out an extensive search of the area and house-to-house inquiries are underway.
Detectives will also be reviewing CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify the offenders.
Chief Inspector Derek Riley said: “This was a very frightening incident for the staff and customers who were working in the store at the time.
“During the incident one of the shop assistants received a slight cut to his hand.
“I would like to reassure the local community that we are doing everything possible to identify the offenders and put them before the courts.
“Shopkeepers provide an invaluable service to our communities and I would urge anyone who lives locally and has any information which could help us with our inquiries to call us.”
