Tributes have been paid to a man who died at the wheel on Queens Drive.
Thomas Fowler (above right) suffered a heart attack while driving a van at the junction of Queens Drive and East Prescot Road on the afternoon of Friday, October 21.
The avid Liverpool FC fan had recently turned 65 before he passed away at the scene after his vehicle collided with the central reservation close to the Navigator pub.
Today Fowler’s family have spoken warmly about a father and grandfather who they described as ‘one of life’s great people’.
A statement released by the family said: “He was married and a devoted father to his children Jenny, Thomas and Michael.
“Later he met his much loved partner Carla and children Paul, Michael, Gary, Alan and Clare who he loved dearly.
“He loved being a Dad and Grandfather and was at his happiest when his family were around him.
“He was the son of Thomas and Mary (deceased) and a brother to Billy (deceased), Mary, Jimmy and Terry.
“He will be deeply missed and they are heartbroken ‘our kid’ isn’t around anymore. He was also an amazing uncle to all of his much loved nieces and nephews.
“Tommy had just turned 65 and a surprise party was organised for him at ‘The Farmer Arms’ all his family and friends turned up to celebrate a great family man.
“He was a great Liverpool supporter and followed them all over Europe in the great 70s and 80s with many funny stories about his travels to follow his mighty Reds.
“He always had time to listen to you and had a moment to talk to many people in his job, which was delivering medicine to older people for a local pharmacy Lloyds, he was on way to a delivery at the time he passed away.
“We have all lost one of life’s great people, ‘Tommy’ was one of them and although he has passed on, the memory of him and the many funny stories will live in us all forever.”
