Man murdered in Aigburth shooting named

Police have named the man killed in Aigburth on Monday night as Blake Brown.

The 30-year-old was gunned down in Southwood Road, close to St Michaels train station, with injuries to his head, thigh and buttock.

He was pronounced dead in hospital just 40 minutes after the shooting.

A post mortem confirmed that Brown, thought to be from Croxteth, died as the result of gunshot wounds.

Detectives from Merseyside Police insist that their investigation is still at an early stage but believe that the incident was a targeted attack.

Officers have conducted house-to-house enquiries and patrols were stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

Superintendent Jonathon Davies said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around this time, to call us so we can find those responsible and put them before the courts.

“We will not tolerate the use of firearms on the streets of Merseyside and are relentless in our efforts to bring those who are prepared to use them to justice.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Merseyside Police’s Matrix gun crime team on 0800 230 0600 or Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
