Appeal launched after 20-man brawl near Central Station

Police are appealing for witnessed to come forward following a 20-man brawl near Liverpool’s Central Station.

An altercation between two groups of men broke out in Hanover Street at 7.30pm on Monday night with three people arrested at the scene.

Officers detained an Anfield man, aged 22, and two teenage boys, aged 13 and 14, from South Africa but all three were released pending further enquiries.

Chief Inspector Clare Jenkins said: “This investigation is at a very early stage.

“It would have been extremely distressing for members of the public to witness.

“This happened in the city centre and so there would have been many people in the area.

“We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, events leading up to it or the aftermath to contact police.

“Any information, however small it may seem, could prove vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
