Police have arrested two teenagers following a sexual assault in Wavertree.
Detectives confirmed that a 19-year-old man from Toxteth has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted rape in the area last weekend.
A woman fought off an attack by a stranger as she returned home from work with the man heading off in the direction of Lawrence Road in the aftermath.
Merseyside Police stepped up patrols in Wavertree over the Bank Holiday weekend after the attack late on Saturday night.
Another teenager was also arrested in the local area on suspicion of attempted rape and sexual assault in connection with a similar incident in Edge Hill.
The man attempted to evade police in a rooftop chase after officers were called to the junction of Cranbourne Road and Webster Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.
All three emergency services attended the scene after the 19-year-old climbed onto a roof in Garrick Street before he was subsequently detained.
