Almost £2 million is set to be cut from Merseyside’s drug and alcohol treatment services.
Liverpool’s clinical commissioning group will discontinue its £1.9 million funding to Mersey Care NHS Trust for tacklng the addictions from 2018.
The group claim that recent legislation dictates that the onus for funding for treatments is now the responsibility of Liverpool City Council.
it comes a month after the region was revealed to have the highest number of people in England admitted to hospital with drug-related mental health issues.
Unison claim that Mersey Care’s 96 employees in the sector have helped over 1,000 people overcome their drug and alcohol addictions.
