Joey Barton has lost his bid to be bailed before going to trial.
Barton is set to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court on March 8, 2027 over an alleged assault that took place at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club this year.
The case against the former footballer, who denied a charge of Section 18 wounding with intent, was originally due to be heard at the start of last week.
But Judge David Potter KC adjourned the trial until early next year, coincidentally on the same date that the reported attack had taken place.
However defence counsel Tim Forte KC made a new bail application for the 44-year-old to be temporarily released on Monday afternoon (September 7).
The Huyton-born midfielder was present during the hour-long proceedings via video link to HMP Liverpool, wearing a grey Columbia fleece and glasses.
Judge Potter further remanded Barton into custody until his trial commences for the alleged attack carried out on former non-league manager Kevin Lynch
A pre-trial review was also scheduled for December 11 at the latest hearing.
The case against Barton’s co-defendant Gary O’Grady, 50, was discontinued by prosecutors in June.
