£500,000 cannabis farm discovered in Prescot

Merseyside Police have confirmed that a cannabis farm with 157 plants was found on Prescot Road, pharmacy Fairfield earlier this week.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue were called to the address, cure to reports of a fire in the premises, on Monday 25 July. When they attended they found cannabis factory in a second floor flat. There was no-one inside the flat and no reports of anyone being injured.

Sergeant Kevin Coakley from the force’s Cannabis Dismantling Team said: “The cannabis found at this address, would have an estimated annual yield of £500,000. Cannabis cultivated by criminal gangs can cause serious harm in our communities, and as we have seen at this address, the farms themselves can be a danger.

“Thankfully on this occasion no-one was injured, but this is a busy residential area so this could have been a very different story. Our communities can help us stop these groups, who are only interested in making money from turning houses and flats into potential death traps. Nobody wants to live next door to these properties and we would ask that if you believe someone is using a property for this purpose, please tell us so we can take positive action and find those responsible for setting them up.”

Anyone with any information about cannabis production in their area can call the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
