A woman has died after being struck by a lorry in Walton.
Emergency services were called to Walton Lane at around 10.30am on Wednesday (February 11) following reports of a collision between the pedestrian and a green HGV.
The woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
A 62-year-old man from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.
He remains in police custody and will be interviewed by detectives.
The road remains closed for collision investigation work and diversions remain in place.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson said: “My thoughts are with the women’s family at this awful time and our priority is to get answers for them.
“Although someone has been arrested, this investigation remains in the very early stages and I appeal to anyone with information to come forward and help us establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who was travelling on Walton Lane, near to Walton Village, at around 10.30am who witnessed what happened and who has yet to speak to my team, to please get in touch.
“Additionally, if your vehicle is fitted with front or rear dash cameras, then please check to see if it has captured anything that you may be unaware of. This could prove to be important to our enquiries.
“Finally, my sincere thanks to those members of the public who stopped at the scene and assisted where they could.
“I appreciate that this was a traumatic incident and your help is greatly appreciated.”
