Merseyrail services disrupted by cold snap

Trains across Merseyside have been impacted by the recent cold snap.

A number of Merseyrail services were cancelled after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for the Liverpool City Region until 11am on Tuesday (January 6).

The Headbolt Lane to Liverpool Central via Kirkby line is among the routes currently experiencing the biggest disruption following a technical issue on one of the trains.

Routes from Rock Ferry to Chester and Ellesmere Port are suspended while services between Sandhills and Ormskirk are also out of service.

A rail replacement bus is running between the lines as well as between Sandhills and Maghull but roads towards Ormskirk are currently too dangerous for buses.

Trains running on the Hunts Cross line to Sandhills have returned but may still be subject to delays and cancellations, the public transport operator has said.

Merseyrail expect the disruption to continue until at least 2pm.
