Calls to increase Paul Doyle’s prison sentence are set to be reviewed.
Doyle was jailed for 21-and-a-half years on Tuesday (December 16) after he drove into crowds at Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade in May.
The 54-year-old injured more than 130 people when his two-tonne Ford Galaxy careered down Water Street shortly after the celebrations concluded.
In sentencing Judge Andrew Menary KC said that Doyle’s actions had inflicted ‘horror and devastation on a scale never previously seen before these courts’.
Now the Attorney General’s Office has confirmed it has been asked to consider the punishment under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scene.
“We have received several requests for Paul Doyle’s sentence to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme,” said a spokesperson.
“The law officers have 28 days from sentencing to carefully consider the case and make a decision.”
