Mersey Tunnel users are set to be hit by a fresh price hike next year.
Motorists travelling between Liverpool and Wirral currently pay £2.30 while Liverpool City Region residents with T-Flow accounts are on rate of £1.50.
But the Combined Authority has proposed a 10p increase on both of the gateway tariffs which would take the cost to £2.40 and £1.60 respectively.
If ratified at the regional body’s upcoming meeting next Friday (December 21), the changes to the Mersey Tunnels will come into effect from April 1, 2026.
The Combined Authority argue the figure will still see city region residents paying £1 less than the maximum amount authorised by the Tunnels Act.
That guideline amount, set by the government, currently stands at £2.90.
Tolls were previously increased this year with journeys through the Kingsway and Queensway Tunnels rising from £2.10 for non T-Flow users.
Under the Tunnels Act, tolls are permitted to increase prices in line with inflation but economic and social factors can also be taken into consideration.
Elsewhere, the cost of a young person’s MyTicket, which affords unlimited bus travel for under-19s, will be frozen for a ninth consecutive year at £2.20.
Residents will also receive free travel passes once they turn 60 in a move which is seven years ahead of the national scheme.
