Legendary former Marine AFC manager Roly Howard has died at the age of 90.
Howard took charge of the current National League side for 33 years between August 1972 and May 2005, setting a Guiness World Record in the process.
Future Liverpool and Republic of Ireland full-back Jason McAteer was one of the players who benefited from the Ormskirk native’s tenure at the Crosby club.
Over the course of his 1,975 games, Marine won two Northern Premier Leagues and six Liverpool Senior Cups among a host of honours during Howard’s spell.
Away from management, he worked as a window cleaner in Southport who counted Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish as one of his clients.
“All at Marine AFC are deeply saddened by the passing of former manager Roly Howard earlier today at the age of 90,” confirmed a club statement.
“Roly managed the club from August 1972 to April 2005, taking charge for 1,975 games over a world record 33-year period.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Roly’s family and friends at this sad time.”
