The former Mayor of Liverpool has denied allegations of bribery and misconduct.
Joe Anderson was one of 12 people charged under Operation Aloft, an investigation into council building and development contracts between 2010 and 2020 in March.
The 67-year-old faces separate counts of bribery, misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office ahead of his trial in April 2027.
Included in them is a claim that he had ‘sent or arranged the sending of threatening letters to himself’ between the dates of June 28, 2010 and August 5, 2015.
Anderson, who stepped down following his initial arrest in December 2020, entered not guilty pleas to all charges at Manchester Crown Court on Friday (November 21).
His trial as well as that of son David Anderson, ex-council deputy Derek Hatton, his wife Sonja and one-time council director Andrew Barr will begin on April 5, 2027.
Fellow accused Nicholas Kavanagh, Philippa Cook, James Shalliker, Adam McLean, Julian Flanagan and Paul Flanagan go to trial from Februrary 23, 2026.
