Pub shut down after lock-in street brawl

A Merseyside pub has been shut down after its lock-in ended in a violent brawl.

Three people required hospital treatment following the fight involving bottles and metal bars outside the Seaforth Arms in the early hours of Sunday, September 21.

A woman and man, both in their 40s, and a 16-year-old girl were taken to hospital in the aftermath of the street disorder and have subsequently been discharged.

Merseyside Police arrested three men aged 19, 21 and 15 on suspicion of affray.

Officers confirmed that the premises had also been reported to police over underage drinking, drug use and the sale of alcohol on-site after hours.

A requested review of the premises by Sefton Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee saw the Seaforth Arms’ licence revoked permanently for the wide-ranging issues.

Local Policing Inspector Ken Sumner said: “This premises was a serious cause for concern in our community and the violent incident last month resulted in three people needing hospital treatment.

“This is completely unacceptable and we requested a review of its licence, which has resulted in it being revoked and the pub shut down.

“I hope this shows our communities that we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to keeping the public safe.

“I also hope this sends a clear message to any other licensed premises that robust action will be taken when issues arise.”
