Jaguar Land Rover have extended its shutdown until the start of next month.
Workers at one of the company’s main productions bases in Halewood were initially stood down at the end of August due to a cyber attack impacting its systems.
An estimated 1,000 cars a day and £72 million in sales continue to be lost by the UK’s largest car manufacturer during the hiatus, which is now in its fourth week.
But JLR confirmed on Tuesday that manufacturing will not be resumed until October 1 despite suggestions of a provisional return on Wednesday (September 24).
A spokesperson said: “We have made this decision to give clarity for the coming week as we build the timeline for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation.
“Our teams continue to work around the clock alongside cybersecurity specialists, the NCSC and law enforcement to ensure we restart in a safe and secure manner.
“Our focus remains on supporting our customers, suppliers, colleagues, and our retailers who remain open.
“We fully recognise this is a difficult time for all connected with JLR and we thank everyone for their continued support and patience.”
