A new street market is set to be trialled in Liverpool city centre.
More than 40 stalls offering food, handmade gifts and community activities will run from the Chinatown arch and run along Nelson Street on Sunday, September 28.
The market will operate between 10am and 4pm as part of an initiative designed to rejuvenate the area while also enhancing its visitor ecnonomy and cultural heritage.
Liverpool is home to Europe’s oldest Chinese community with its roots dating back to the 1860s when sailors and merchants began settling in the area near the docks.
Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for health, wellbeing and culture, said: “This is is about more than just stalls – it’s about creating a space where people can come together, celebrate community and enjoy everything the area has to offer.
“If this trial is successful, it could pave the way for a regular market that becomes a real fixture in the city’s cultural calendar.”
