A man has been jailed for starting a fire that damaged a Beatles attraction.
Daniel Byrne was caught on CCTV setting alight rubbish piled up aoutside the Beatles Museum in Mathew Street close to the original Cavern Club venue.
The 38-year-old, of no fixed abode, was arrested after the incident at 4am on July 14 in the Liverpool city centre spot during which he lit the debris with a lighter.
Byrne later admitted to police that he had been drinking vodka prior to the act, which he claimed was carried out because he was being ‘builled by the government’.
He was sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday for arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Mikayla Kitchen, of CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said: “Daniel Byrne deliberately caused a fire by the Liverpool Beatles Museum.
“He remained at the scene to ensure it had caught fire, checking the extent of the damage as he walked away.
“He had no regard for the lives of people he placed in danger. This sentence reflects the seriousness of his actions on that night.”
