Merseyrail is set to face a review over ‘unnecessary chaos’ in its network.
Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram ordered the independent probe after multiple trains were either delayed or cancelled following several days of icy weather.
The Northern and Wirral lines were heavily disrupted on Thursday with no service on either for a brief period and further issues anticipated on Friday.
Mr Rotheram has now confirmed that he has commissioned a report into the issues, which will be delivered to February’s Combined Authority meeting.
Representatives from Merseyrail, Network Rail and train manufacturer Stadler will all be summoned to the next Transport Committee meeting on January 30.
“Let me be clear: this isn’t just about trains not running,” said Mr Rotheram.
“It’s about the real-world impact on people’s lives – the stress, the missed opportunities, and the disruption it causes.
“And while freezing conditions might cause challenges, there’s no excuse for other aspects such as the poor communication passengers have experienced.
“They deserve clear, timely information, not to be left in the dark.”
