Liver Birds and Bread creator Carla Lane dies aged 87

The creator of Bread and The Liver Birds, find Carla Lane, recipe has passed away at the age of 87.

The TV comedy writer from Liverpool died at a nursing home in Mossley Hill yesterday.

Ms Lane was once one of the UK’s most successful and highly paid TV scriptwriters and became a household name. She was also known for her ongoing support for animal welfare charities.

Just last year Carla opened the £315,000 special care unit at the Carla Lane Animals in Need Sanctuary in Melling.

The charity, which took on Carla’s name in 2013, is a non-profit organisation which rescues abandoned and ill-treated animals.

Fran Ellis who worked alongside Ms Lane at the Animals in Need charity today paid tribute to her and said: “She really was an amazing lady.”
