The numbers of pupils suspended or expelled from Liverpool schools have been revealed, with a concerning number of young people missing out on school.
According to figures released by the Liverpool Echo, 2,287 students were suspended or permanently excluded between summer 2013 and Easter 2015.
Reasons given for students being removed ranged from disruptive behaviour and theft, to instances of assault, racial abuse and sexual misconduct.
Cardinal Heenan High School topped the expulsion list during the period, with 317 students dismissed.
Other schools including North Liverpool Academy (175), Gateacre Comprehensive School (160) and Alsop High School (117) also banned an alarmingly high number of pupils.
The Academy of St Francis of Assisi and Childwall Sports and Science Academy also removed over a 100 students each.
Deputy Mayor Nick Small, also a Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, gave his thoughts on the figures released.
“Any school exclusion is a cause for concern, but sadly in some cases it’s the only option when pupil’s behaviour starts to damage the education of others.”
“Our family of schools work together to set up fair access panels to make sure that schools can give excluded pupils a second chance in another Liverpool school.”
Alongside the figures released for secondary schools, it was also revealed that over 200 primary school pupils were suspended or expelled during the monitored period.
