COVID rates in Liverpool City Region quadruple

Some areas within the Liverpool City Region have seen the number of people test positive for COVID quadruple in one week.

Within Halton Cases of Covid-19 had more than quadrupled in the borough during the week up to January 4, reaching a total of 1,517 by the time the new national lockdown was announced.

Approximately one in every 85 people in the area tested positive for COVID-19.

Liverpool City Council confirmed there had also been a rise in cases by 2850 taking the rate per 100,000 to 893.5 per 100,000.

The areas within Liverpool with the highest number of cases are Riverside, West Derby, Speke-Garston, Warbreck, Clubmoor, Yew Tree, Belle Vale, Knotty Ash, Childwall and Allerton and Hunts Cross.

City Region Leaders have urged people to follow the new national lockdown guidance to stop the spread of the virus.
