Hundreds of people gathered in Liverpool in support of a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest.
A social media post encouraged people to gather at St George’s Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday in a show of solidarity and unity with the ethnic community.
Protesters joined together to condemn the murder of unarmed man George Floyd in Minneapolis last Monday.
Floyd was pinned to the ground by an officer for over 8 minutes and pleaded with the officer that he could not breathe.
The event organised locally drew thousands of people to the peaceful protest. Many carried homemade signs and wore t-shirts supporting the movement.
Campaigners spoke from the stairs of St George’s Hall before the crowds were lead to chant “I can’t Breathe” over an eight-minute window.
At the end of the period, protesters shouted “Officer please, I can’t breathe” just as George Floyd did when he died at the hands of the police officer.

The protest was extremely emotional with many protesters wiping tears from their eyes throughout the gathering.
Throughout the protest organisers reminded attendees of the importance of social distancing with volunteers also on hand giving out bottles of water and face masks.
Liverpool showed further solidarity with the movement when buildings across the city lit up purple last night.
