Liverpool refuses to fly flag for Prince Andrew

Liverpool will not fly the flag to commemorate Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday.

Council bosses were asked to display the Union Jack on the city’s town hall as part of celebrations of the Duke of York’s landmark occasion on February 19.

But the Government’s request has been turned down by Joe Anderson, who cited links with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein in his reasons for rejecting it.

“No, we won’t be doing that. I don’t think that would be appropriate,” Mayor Anderson confirmed on Thursday.

“This isn’t to do with being anti-royal, we have flown the flag for the Queen before.

“But Prince Andrew isn’t a major royal, he’s not a significant member of the Royal Family.”

He added: “When you look at his behaviour – it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to mark his birthday.”

The Queen has already cancelled formal celebrations of her son’s birthday in light of his connection to Epstein, who was found dead in his cell last year.

Andrew stepped back from Royal public duties following a catastrophic interview on BBC’s Newsnight which questioned his personal conduct.
