Boy, 12, dies on Bootle railway line

A 12-year-old boy has died on a Merseyside railway line.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of track close to Bedford Road in Bootle at around 7pm on Monday following reports of youngsters on the line.

It was later confirmed that one person had been pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Trains between Sandhills and Hall Road were either suspended, delayed or rerouted while the incident was investigated by the emergency services.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to the line in Bootle shortly after 7pm last night following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended. However, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
